About this video

Following their Grand Prix success at Lingen '09, Dr B works with Laura and Andretti (Andy) on staying happy, athletic and precise in the run up to Aachen. Dr B explains that Andy has been difficult in the contact and tight in the neck since he came to them over a year ago, so the work they do on the basics is all about allowing the nose forwards a little more, dropping the neck and remaining soft without putting Andy under pressure. The same system is applied to piaffe, passage and canter pirouettes and Laura demonstrates a useful exercise to maintain forward rhythm in the latter. Andy shows off his classy 'royal' breeding at the end of the session!

Florence 15 Jul 2009 Very interesting seeing how they deal with a horse with some issues.
Chestnut Creek 3 Jul 2009 Very kind of you to share this session. These are the most valuable sessions for riders to watch, when you are working on a problem (not of your making!). A lot of horses have similar issues and it's hard getting their trust when they've come to you with previous baggage. Very good to watch - I'm sure he'll continue to make progress. Laura I had to laugh, I've had so many instructors say "ride him now, or keep riding" - the obvious retort is what the HECK do you think I'm doing?! However - I know what they meant, so you swallow back your indignation and keep riding!
caroline 1 Jul 2009 Very interesting. It is very generous of Laura and her dad to share their work and it is all too easy to critcise any snapshot...perhaps just to say wow fabulous horse, wonderful rider encourages people to share more. I am a great fan BUT I couldn't help but notice in this video when this horse is given a longer rein, the purity of his gaits returns and the tightness and tension in both horse and (unusually for Laura to this extent) the rider dissapears. If the rider had the luxury of time without the pressure of competition on the near horizon weeks/months of this kind of frame for all work would be of enormous benefit to his work in and out of the competition ring.Hey everyones a judge eh!
Alfie 28 Jun 2009 Thank you for sharing this with us it was very generous of both you and your father. How lucky are you to have a dad that is so seeing and knowing. I am no expert but there were times when I think you looked like you might be feeling something different to what you expected us to see and, therefore, I think you overrode him - perhaps a little too driving and hurried and at times tight in the neck but your dad was quick to correct you and you were able to make the correction quickly yourself so that the picture was immediately better. I like the fact the noseband has been losened - and when you are more satisfied with yourself and him I think the mouth will settle and the picture will be lovely. Be quicker to praise and don't wait for your dad to prompt you - your horse is beautiful!
Diana 26 Jun 2009 A lovely video, Laura has such soft hands!
