Yes, it was probably the best decision, and a hard one to make, but oh what a shame! The weather conditions have just been rubbish this year and I was so sorry to hear Blenheim was cancelled. Its such a pity because looking at the form there were allot of first timers this year and everyone must have worked so hard to get there!

Three cheers for Blenheim for making the extremely difficult decision to abandon before the cross country. It's obviously tough to make that call as so much is at stake commerically for the event and regards pressure on riders to perform. But if an event continues to run in treacherous conditions, some riders will inevitably run their horses. It was heartbreaking to see horses struggle with the muddy conditions at Burghley and the fact so few were fit to show jump the next day, to me, indicates that abandoment there would have also been the better decision. Safety is now such a big issue but it's not just about safety regards falls, surely it should also be about the longer term impact on horses of competing in poor conditions? Is anyone quantifying the medium to long term impact of wear and tear on horses competing in dire conditions (hard or soft), let along the damage to confidence especially in soft going when horses slip and slide and end up scrambling over fences with a number of near misses. Such damage to confidence can be irreparable!
