About this video

Natural horsemanship guru, Pat Parelli, talks to a group of up and coming riders about horsemanship; he challenges their perceptions about horses and the conventions surrounding them. Horses today act in one of three ways, he says; either as prey animals, prisoners or partners, and few in the competition world are lucky enough to be treated like partners! Pat explains how a horse's tri-focal vision affects what he sees and how he reacts to it. He says our autocratic behaviour kills a horse's natural curiosity and knocks the try out of them. Pat tells us what Equus really means and answers a tricky question from dressage rider Charlie Hutton.

An American in Copenhagen 15 Jan 2010 Wow, I was surprised to hear so many positive comments. I believe in natural horsemanship and know many people who have had great success following Pareli principals to various degrees. This talk wasn't terribly informative, and I felt it was patronising.
Pegasus77 8 Jan 2010 Interesting, I'm not sure I can always relate to Pat 'though, I too would have liked to see the demo, his relationship with, and the riding of horses.
OGEE 7 Jan 2010 What a great clip! Horses should be our best friends and partners. But it's all too easy to forget that they see things differently then humans. I'm going to find a better way of rewarding my horse then a big pat!
Farrieress 6 Jan 2010 What I would give to spend a year or several learning from this guy!
hhhorse 6 Jan 2010 What a lot of sense Pat talks! Found his explanation of a horses' vision really informative. More please....much more!
