About this video

Paris is an eventing pony who was bought from the sales a year ago, with a few issues. Four star event rider Louise Skelton sets up a 5 jump serpentine consisting of oxers and uprights, in her 40 metre arena, to sharpen up both horse and rider! The aim is to jump each fence straight, land on the correct lead and make enough room for the turn to maintain a constant rhythm to the fence. Easier said than done! Louise explains it needs quick thinking on both their parts and the confidence to ride forwards and not get too cautious. She gradually builds up the exercise, which highlights Paris' weaker side and makes Louise get her bottom back in the saddle!

Louise Skelton 5 Jul 2010 Hi Kevin, I completely agree with you that on this video it highlights how my lower leg position needs to be more secure. I do however because of having a fused ankle need to ride with my stirrups under the arch of my foot because I physically cannot get my heel down on my left foot because it is fused at a 90 degree angle. So compromises have to be made on my position and in other areas of my life like not being able to wear high heels, which is a problem when you are only just over 5ft!
kevin...y 4 Jul 2010 Hi, may I take this opportunity to explain why I made my comment. It was simply that I was looking at the video and I had NO idea that a full interview had taken place explaining the reason for the leg position.
Fiona Price 4 Jul 2010 Hi Kevin, if you watch Louise's amazing interview (see related videos opposite) you will see she had a near fatal accident and that ankle has various metal plates in it so it doesn't bend. She competes successfully at 4* level inspite of this on her two enormous home-bred brothers. Quite an amazing person!
kevin...y 4 Jul 2010 Louise Skelton needs to work on her lower leg position. She seems to have her foot all of the way through the stirrup and her heels up and her toes down when jumping as though she is gripping very hard with her knees rather than dropping the weight into her heels.
One lady 30 Apr 2010 Louise makes it all look such fun! Thank you.
