Re endurance, we can't run to any more coverage of endurance this year as there is so much else to film. Also, the audience is still niche. Personally, it is part of my philosophy with Horse Hero to cover the smaller disciplines too as there is much to learn from everything but you only have to take a look at the viewer figs on endurance versus say the Gemma Green video I posted today (which will probably have a thousand views in a day)! I will bear your suggestions in mind for next year.

Hi Fiona, Thanks for the quick response. And yes, I see what you mean. Sorry, I never thought about that! If you ever want a horse with behavioral "issues" you're more than welcome to use mine. He will keep your crew occupied for days!!!

Hi Fiona,
I love the training videos, which are really informative and interesting, but I think that the video diaries are also great.
Knowing how riders plan for trips abroad or over distance would be great. I am having to travel the length and breadth of Spain just for a national competition. Spain has different ideas on competitions (ie there are NO low level ones, you are either National level or don't go!!)
I second the mention of videoing abroad, I know that living abroad myself, keeping and competing horses is massively different than the UK. And the different things we have in Spain are really interesting. I do know that my little village in Southern Spain always holds the Spanish National High School competition, which is fascinating.

Thanks for that. We are going to do different things with the video diaries, for instance, have a rider cover their prep for a big event and develop the slightly different strand of diary I have started to capture things we don't film for our mainstream. We were meant to be coming to film with Beatriz this year, but it didn't happen. It is still in the thinking....

Beatriz's yard in Barcelona is absolutely superb!! But she is one of few riders that have a yard as such. There are a lot more riders out here who just ride for a breeding stud. Eg. Juan Manuel Muñoz & Fuego. He rides for a stud (which is a beautiful place according to my trainer, who used to train Fuego)
One of the other places that the viewers would love, is the Escuela in Jerez. It is magnificent (the home of Rafael Soto) and beautifully historic. And if you plan it right, you could film the Jerez "Feria del Caballo", which is a festival of horses. I believe this is in May. Its a truly amazing sight and captures the essence of the Spaniard and his horse.
The new video diaries sound excellent, I have been learning on the go and all in a different language as well, so any additional tips are gratefully received!

Yup it is, but be careful when you come over as it can pour with rain or like right now, it is blisteringly hot! May or October are good months. I will send you some photos/video clip next time I am somewhere interesting.

"Just thought it would be an idea to suggest other riders/grooms/famous names to be videoed? Showing-wise would be fantastic to see some videos from Lynn Russell and her cobs! Or showjumpers such as Ben Maher or the Whitakers?" How about asking Geoff Luckett..he'd be great for jump off tips!

We tried Lynne Russell way back and she wasn't up for it unfortunately. We were meant to film with Ben Maher recently and it was cancelled. We did an interview with Robert Whitaker at Windsor and would like to do some training videos with a show jumper. But so far, we haven't had much luck engaging them. They are a tricky bunch, probably because they are away travelling so much of the time. But we'll get there in the end. Did you see our fab' videos with Louise Bell on showing, by the way?

Would love to see Laura B showing us how she uses cavaletti on both her young and older horses. She mentioned this in her forum, thanks.

For those of us whose horses will not tolerate normal pulling, is there any chance of a video demonstrating how to use the various mane tools effectively. My horse usually ends up with a short chunky mane!

Noted. If and when we finally make it to a show-jumper (!) we had planned to show how they cut their manes which might be of interest to you.

New horse... I've just brought a new horse, and it can be confusing what to do with them in those 1st few 'getting to know each other days', so far I've done lunging, brushing and general handling. Some tips would be great!

I would like to see a lunge lesson/ridden lesson focusing on the biomechanics of horse and rider. Too many riding instructors just tell the rider to apply aids but rarely offer an explanantion of which muscles the rider should be using (especially with regard to the seat)to influence the horse - and how to use these muscles correctly and effectively when applying the aids. I'm sure many of us struggle to apply correct aids with little idea of how to use our own bodies on the horse - and the profound effect this has on the well-being of our horses.
Maybe some on-horse pilates to help us locate muscles that we need for balanced riding??

We are about to film a session with dressage rider Hannah Biggs and a Tai Chi expert to look, not so much at what muscles are doing what (not directly at least), but where energy is lost between horse and rider. Along the same lines and should be fascinating!

I think all the videos are relevant. For me dressage training and general turnout are the most interesting. Keep doing what you're doing...it's great!
