About this video

After training in the team dressage test and show jumping phases of the Two Star Championships eventing competition, the squad are given invaluable advice on competition etiquette including how to make the most of the trot up and the art of 'aggressive cooling'. Chef d'Equipe Richard Waygood presents current research on cooling techniques which dispels a few myths! He also predicts where most accidents will happen at the '09 event and it's not where you'd think! Team member and co-trainer Jonathan Chapman presides over the mock trot up and vet Roz Jennings explains the essentials of hydration to Fiona Price. All fascinating!

Richard Waygood 24 Jun 2009 Yes the water boils on the skin and insulates the horse, depending on the conditions 1 - 2 mins the water should be removed. Next time your horse is hot and you have washed him put your hand on his skin after a minute or two and feel how hot the water is. When I see race horses at the end of a races being paraded for prize giving it upsets me to see how hot they can become when not turned in fast enough.
Silver Snaffles 24 Jun 2009 Very interesting about the cooling off, especially to remove the water after one minute.
juliet 24 Jun 2009 The cooling info' is so very useful!
