Our LR SP had to wear an ill fitting rug for two nights whilst her rug was being mended and her hood was in the wash... the result is about 6 inches of mane pretty much totally rubbed out. I feel sick! Please nobody else say to me, well you shouldn't have put her in that rug, I know, I know, the damage is done.

Please please does anyone have any ideas to encourage mane growth? During the season she normally has to have her mane pulled 3 or 4 times anyway so maybe she's a quick grower?

Our first show of the new season is 14th February, am I going to have anything back by then?! She has literally wisps left and I loathe the idea of using false plaits, mostly because I have nothing to attach them too.

You could try Shapleys MTG (although it doesn't have the nicest of smells) or Eqyss Megatek rebuilder. Both products are used for hair regrowth and should be rubbed into the root.

You can find buy them both on the internet on various sites, just google them.

A good feed supplement containing biotin will help too plus massaging the base of the mane to help encourage blood flow & new hair growth.

If anyone actually has a solution of making hair grow then we could find a way of making hair grow we could make a fortune – think of all those bald men!!

I have had some good results on getting hair to grow over cuts using cornucrescine (the hoof treatment) but whether that is due to the gentle massage of applying it or through the stuff itself I don’t know.

I think that your best way may be to make sure that the horse’s diet includes a good vitamin supplement. The vitamins and minerals usually associated with good hair growth include vitamin B-6, biotin, magnesium and zinc.

Good luck – and as a back up practice the false plaits!
