About this video

Teddy and Step are both five but because they are different builds, they are at different stages of training. Laura rides Step and Carl Cuypers rides the "elephant size" Teddy who is already bigger and heavier than Alf! The work they are doing seems similar, however, it's different in intensity. Step is able to collect and balance, take sitting trot and a deeper seat. Carl rides Teddy tactfully with shallow corners so he can maintain his balance. "Training them to become athletes starts now" says Laura, "so it's essential they have a forward-pushing hind leg. But there's no rush, they will have plenty of time to develop strength before doing advanced moves."

Horsecrazygal 4 Sep 2009 Hi Laura, do you have any tips for helping anxiety and spooking in horses? I have a warmblood and he keeps spooking at anything and everything! Is their somthing I can do or give him to try and eliminate this issue. Thankyou!
Horsecrazygal 4 Sep 2009 This is just fantastic!!!! Thankyou Laura
st louis 3 May 2009 I watched this video once a couple of weeks ago and have come back to it many times to admire your tact and skill in maintaining contact without restricting the horse's stretch over it's back, which is particularly important in young horses. This is a fantastic example of young horse training and it's obvious why Laura is going to be one to watch in the future. It's also a treat for me to see an example of a Stedinger offspring to see what my 3yo Stedinger gelding might turn out like! Such a shining example of a young trainer using correct basics to make potential stars!
Earl 24 Apr 2009 Really lovely video! I think the calmness shown is brilliant!
Conspicuous 21 Apr 2009 Thank you very much for your video. I have a young (2YO) KWPN gelding myself, who is going to be absolutely enormous, and I feel sometimes that people are putting quite a lot of pressure on me to "get going" with his training. I suppose because he is already over 16.1h, he looks like he is physically mature enough that he could handle the work. I think both Laura and Carl are excellent examples of a correct and kind approach to starting a horse into training, which is evident in how happy the horses are in their work. It's nice to hear that you start them, then give them a bit of time off to rest their bodies and brains, then gradually bring them back into work. Thank you again, I feel vindicated in my approach to starting my youngster!
